Fantastic local produce is on the menu in the hotel’s restaurant, and the excellent service at the hotel will make you feel very special indeed.

Hotel Portmeirion

Portmeirion Village is quite unlike any other village in Wales, and a stay there truly feels like getting away from the world outside.

This hotel opened in 1926 and you’ll find that the village’s quirky design continues inside the hotel. Intricately carved fireplaces and doorframes, a mirrored wall, and vintage artworks fill the rooms, but there are also soft leather sofas to cuddle up on.

The bedrooms have a more restrained decor than the public areas. They’re elegant and graceful, with the luxurious facilities you’d expect in a hotel of this standard.

Tyddyn Llan

If your idea of the perfect romantic weekend in Wales involves some seriously good food, then you will love Tyddyn Llan.

This pretty Georgian house is set in the North Wales countryside just a few miles away from Llandudno, and prides itself on providing excellent food.

Chef Brian Webb and his wife Susan have owned Tyddyn Llan for more than 18 years, and they’ve created a restaurant with rooms that feels incredibly welcoming and homey.

The rooms are elegant and well appointed, but you still feel like you can kick off your shoes and relax with your feet up in the reception rooms. And the pretty gardens are perfect for a romantic stroll or afternoon tea on the terrace.

And the food is outstanding – Tyddyn Llan has a reputation for being one of Wales’ best restaurants . The menu is updated daily to reflect the best of the season and wherever possible, Welsh produce is used. This includes excellent meat and game from the local area, and fish from the Welsh coast.

Nanteos Mansion

For a hotel that makes a dramatic first impression, head over to Aberystwyth for a stay at Nanteos Mansion!

As you head along the long driveway to Nanteos Mansion, you can’t help but be impressed. This Grade 1 listed mansion was built in 1739, and certainly makes a good first impression.

Inside you’ll see the results of the renovation work that has retained so many of Nanteos’ period features, from the intricate ceiling in the Music Room to the dramatic sweeping staircase. You can take afternoon tea in the Morning Room, eat dinner in the spacious dining room, and next morning tuck into a delicious Welsh breakfast in the old kitchen.

Once a farmhouse, this boutique Georgian hotel is surrounded by farmland. It looks out over Pen-y-Fan at the rear of the hotel and you can sit out on the terrace which overlooks the nearby River Usk.

    I’ve always love Portmeirion Village since I visited as a child, it was so quirky, but to revisit and actually stay there would be amazing! I cannot wait until we can finally have little breaks away, will be great to add more staycation trips to our belts! Sim x

    I need a relaxing break so badly, after so much quarantine, stay at home and cook every day. I’d love to take a break and go to Wales for a weekend, to enjoy a little bit of pampering. Any of these beautiful hotels would do.

    Hands up I do love Wales, it has just the most beautiful places to go and see, the scenery, the buildings just everything. These all sound like amazing places to spend time at as well, I think my first choice would be Gliffaes Country House Hotel!

    These look fantastci, i would be more than happy to stay at any of these as they look fab, i think the Hotel Portmeirion would be my choice, but its a close call, great post.

    I haven’t been to Port Meirion since I was a child but would love to go back. It’s a very special place – plus Captain Adorable (Justin Fletcher) was filmed there – one of the kids all time favs way back when.

      I’m the opposite – I’ve been to North Wales more often because it’s just over the border from Shropshire! Tyddyn Llan is such a lovely cosy place to visit
